August 21: Pre-conference Advisory Boards

We’re opening up an invitation for folks who engage directly with the Sensu Engineering and Leadership teams to join us for either our Technical or Customer Advisory Board (TAB and CAB for short). If you’re running Sensu in a production environment at medium to large scale, we want your input! Let us know if you’d like to participate, and check out this blog post for more info.

August 22: Sensu Summit

Join us for a great day of talks and workshops, with plenty of snacks (donuts, anyone?) and an after party at the Portland Art Museum’s lovely sculpture garden.

Morning

  • Registration starts at 8am. Come say hi and fuel up with coffee and breakfast.
  • Opening words from Sensu CEO Caleb Hailey.
  • CTO Sean Porter will walk us through 7 years of Sensu (including a look at what’s next).
  • Fireside chat with Kelsey Hightower, Staff Developer Advocate for Google Cloud Platform, Sean Porter, and Caleb Hailey, in which they’ll discuss the latest industry trends in application and infrastructure delivery.
  • Morning break, with delicious bites from Devil’s Food Catering.
  • Hear from Box.com Sr. Infrastructure Site Reliability Engineer Trent Baker on migrating 350K objects in Nagios to Sensu — including over 130K checks!
  • Workday’s David Beaurpere will discuss monitoring at scale.
  • Senior Production Engineer Christopher J. Caillouet will take us behind the scenes at visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic, showing how the intelligence and uptime they’ve gained by leveraging Sensu enable reliability and stable delivery, at scale.

Lunch

Afternoon

  • Sensu Software Engineer Mercedes Coyle will discuss testing and performance analysis for Sensu-go.
  • Chris Chandler, Principal Engineer at T-mobile, on tackling sensu-client challenges serverless style, running his own code, and then shipping the check outcome of the /results API.
  • Afternoon break, with more snacks and coffee to keep us sharp.
  • Sensu SVP of Engineering Greg Poirier will give us the lowdown on assets in Sensu 2.0, including our ideas about how assets may impact the community plugins, and what’s planned for Sensu Enterprise integrations.
  • Lee Briggs, Sr. Infrastructure Engineer at Apptio, on the tricks and tips for monitoring Kubernetes resources and cluster components, with lessons learned along the way.
  • Chef’s Julian Dunn and Fletcher Nichol will discuss architectures for monitoring and configuration in the microservices era.
  • Caleb Hailey on the future of Sensu, with his take on the monitoring event pipeline.

Evening

Our after party at the Portland Art Museum Sculpture Gallery kicks off at 5:30pm, with snacks, cocktails, and continued conversations.

August 23: Community day

Come together for hands-on application of the previous day’s technical learnings, with access to Sensu maintainers and engineers.

Morning

  • Join us for breakfast at 8:30am.
  • Paul Reed, Managing Partner at Release Engineering Approaches, will start the day with his thoughts on failure as success, including the mindset, methods, and landmines along the way.
  • Maintainers Ben Abrams and Eric Heydrick will discuss alert fatigue, offering advice for how to cut through the noise and improve reaction time to real problems.
  • Puppet’s Garrett Honeycutt will showcase the Puppet module, including its current state and support for Sensu 2.0, as well as highlight community contributions.
  • David Schroeder, Software Engineer at Viasat, will describe using Ansible to configure and deploy Sensu for multiple teams.

Lunch

Afternoon

After lunch, we’ll break out for our community unconference, with hands-on tutorials, discussions around our stickiest monitoring challenges, and some enlightening lightning talks. Sensu engineers will be on hand to talk through what you’re working on and lend help when needed.
